You think this might be a trap of some sort. You imagine the person who put the statues here, watching you, and laughing at you. Maybe these are living or animated statues, and any minute they would attack. You imagine the person who put them here, laughing at you being so stupid as to think they were normal statues. You growl at the thought. Whoever put them here thinks they'll have the advantage since you're not expecting an attack. You'll show them. In a flash of courage, you reach for your sword and draw it. You hold it up as if to swing it at the statue closest to you. This sense of courage is derived from a belief deep down that they are really normal statues after all. That belief is short lived. The statue you were about to swing at, in a rapid but mechanical fashion, hoists up its spear and aims it at you. In simultaneous disbelief and terror, you stop dead. Your heart is racing, and the sword goes heavy in your hand. Then in an instant, a blinding flash, you see a blur, then THUNK, the spear goes through your chest, piercing your heart, the ivory head goes out your back, you fall backwards, hit the ground, you open your mouth as if to scream but you can't find the breath, your sight, hearing, and sense of touch leave you in that order, leaving only an unfathomable piercing pain that courses through every fiber of your body, and your blood sloshes and stains the grass, and as you pass out, the first and last words to form in your pain-blinded mind are "...Oh Anu!..."
