You can't risk eating something that may be poisonous. You toss it to the ground. You hope to the gods that you come upon something that you know is edible. You could try eating the grass but it's probably of neglible nutritional value. Reluctantly, you head back to the tree and sit down. You're still famished. Your feet hurt from walking all day. You have red marks on your shoulders from the back pack. You still have that gash on your leg from the faeries. You could build a camp fire but there's no real point. It's a warm night, and you're so exhausted, you feel like going right to sleep. You take out the tattered remains of your blanket and lie down on it. You look up through the overlapping branches and mosaic of leaves. The sky goes from deep blue to cobalt. As drowsiness sweeps over you, you wonder what you're doing here so far from home. Of course, "home" may be laid waste with fire and sword. If not yet, then soon. You may be lucky to be here, here being if nothing else, peaceful. It's with flickering memories of the people at home that you drift off to sleep.
The early morning chill still hangs in the air when you awake. The eastern horizon is orange, anticipating sunrise, and the trees are filled with bird song. You breathe deeply of the cool morning air. The pangs of hunger begin afresh since you would normally eat at this time but to some extent you're accustomed to it. You put your blanket back in your back pack, and hoist it to your shoulders. You set off walking east through the wild grass. Selis and Rahm rise gloriously, and you're temporarily blinded by the glare. When you refocus on the ground in front of you, you notice something you hadn't before. You squint against the brightness. It's a small white object. You walk closer and see that it's a small statue of some animal. It's about three feet high and about the size of a dog. You realize it's a statue of a wild boar. You think of the statues of soldiers you saw earlier. They looked like they were made of ivory, and this looks like it's made of marble or something similar. You examine it closer and are impressed by the workmanship. It's very lifelike, the texture of the hair, the teeth, even the eyes. Who put this here? You suddenly think of the statues of soldiers that came to life, and you quickly back away from it. You look at the statue of the boar for awhile but can't make anything else of it. It looked sort of like statues people would sometimes have flanking either side of an impressive threshold. With one last look, you turn away from it and keep walking east. It looks like it's going to be a beautiful day. You continue trudging through the grass.
Eventually, you pass under a stand of trees. You unknowingly kick a small rock. This draws your attention to it, and you think what is that? It's a small white object. You pick it up. It's a small statue of a bird, like a robin. It looks like it's made of marble, and it weighs about a pound. It's obviously of skilled craftsmanship. You admire the intricate feathering and the feet. Then you notice two others in the grass ahead of you. You pick one of them up. It's very similar although slightly different. What are these things? Someone dropped these accidentally? You toss them to the ground and keep walking. After awhile, you detect movement in the distance. You strain your eyes, and can make out some purple object. You wonder what it is, and keep walking. You see this large purple object moving slowly a great distance from you. What is that? Some kind of animal? This appears more likely as you near it. It slowly takes the shape of some sort of large quadruped, about the size of a cow. It was grazing, and kept its head close to the ground. It had a huge bunch of hair on its head which fell over its face like a sheep dog. This hair touched the ground and obscured its head. It looked like it had cloven hooves. It was bright purple, most of its body being dark purple, and the hair on its head being light purple. It was otherwise nondescript. You can't identify the animal. You search your mind but can't remember having ever heard of an animal like this. You're walking straight towards it. You think maybe you should walk around it, or walk a further distance from it. Do you walk past the animal or walk around it ?
